Profile: Applied Polymer Technology Ltd. specializes in the design of polymer systems and products for engineering applications. Our key areas are vibration control, marine engineering, sub-sea protection and acoustic signature management. We are certified with ISO 9001 quality certification. By combining polymer chemistry and component geometry, our systems can be tailored to meet acoustic & performance specifications such as operational frequency range, echo reduction, insertion loss and environmental conditions. Our water-filled tube is 4.7m long and can be used to measure echo reduction, insertion loss and fractional power dissipation as a function of frequency & temperature. The tube can also be pressurized to simulate the effect of hydrostatic pressure on acoustic performance. An impulse signal is projected into the tube from one end with side hydrophones capturing the signal passing through and reflected from the test piece. Data is converted into the frequency domain using fast fourier transforms, allowing measurement of acoustic performance. The pulse tube can also be used for multiple pressure cycling to test bond integrity, to examine material deformation under sustained loading and to investigate the effect of repeated excursions in pressure on acoustic performance.
