Profile: Applied Science International, LLC specializes in the development of structural design and structural analysis software tools & services. Extreme Loading® for Structures (ELS) studies the 3D behavior of structures through all stages of loading, including static and dynamic loads such as blast, seismic, impact & wind. The ELS's nonlinear applied element method (AEM) solver analyzes structural behavior during elastic and inelastic modes including the automatic detection & generation of plastic hinges, buckling, cracks & collapse. In addition, resulting debris and its impact with structural elements is automatically analyzed & stress redistribution is inherently calculated. The ELS modeler allows for the creation of structures in both 2D and 3D modes with default & customizable styles for columns, girders, slabs, walls, windows & reinforcement, industry-standard & built up steel sections, pre-stressed concrete, pre-stressed link elements and automatic mesh adjustment. Using applied element method (AEM) based Extreme Loading® technology, we can accurately assess the vulnerability of an existing structure subjected to extreme loading cases such as blast, impact or seismic. Additionally, we can propose and model retrofit schemes for the structure, comparing the behavior of the structure before & after retrofit. This assessment can be done for both structural and non-structural components of the structure. Our progressive collapse analysis services include modeling and simulation of the structure with the necessary structural & non-structural components, checking the structure against the requirements of relevant progressive collapse codes such as GSA or UFC Guidelines, determining the shape & dimensions of the expected collapse area, and re-designing the structure to resist progressive collapse so as to avoid partial or complete collapse.
