Profile: Bexley and Bromley Roofing specializes in flat roof installation and repair services. High performance felt is the most commonly used material for flat roofs, and the method of fixing the felt is usually torch on. The felt is manufactured with a layer of modified bitumen applied to the underside. This is heated up and melted using a gas torch to form a flood of bitumen at the base of the roll. It is usually laid in 3 layers, the first layer being a perforated (venting) layer. This allows partial or spot bonding to the roof decking. The second layer is a 3 mm thick torch on underlay, which seals the roof and provides a bituminous surface for the top layer to be fully bonded to. The top layer is a 4.5 mm thick mineral cap sheet; the mineral granules which cover this layer provide protection from the damaging effects of the sun's rays.
