Profile: CMI Novacast Inc. manufactures electromagnetic pump systems for aluminum, zinc, sodium, and mercury. Carefully constructed from composite ceramics, these pumps contain no solid moving parts. The semi-submersed pumps draw filtered molten metal from well below the bath surface. The metal moves smoothly, without turbulence, through heated launder tubes into molds, shot sleeves, or tundishes, with minimal atmospheric contact. Operator handling is minimized, and dross & gassing are eliminated. Metal delivery is a controlled, laminar flow, and the bath temperature is retained. The linear annular LA series electromagnetic pumps are manufactured for sodium and mercury. The pumps are constructed of type 316 stainless steel. The maximum operating temperature is 600°C with maximum flow rates from 4 m3/h up to 140 m3/h. Nominal pressure of 5 bar with maximum design pressure of 10 bar. We also manufacture FS series electromagnetic flow meters for various metals. The PG series electromagnetic pumps are used for transferring molten aluminum or zinc in a controlled and non-turbulent manner for low pressure filling of sand, permanent or semi-permanent molds. The pumps can also be used as a metering device for filling of molds via gravity. The electromagnetic pumps last longer in the furnace, cost less to maintain and operate & deliver more consistent, precise & better performance than any other pump in their class. The model PG-450 pump is the workhorse pump being used in many different applications, most of which are low pressure. In low pressure precision sand, the pump provides very quick and precise control of mold filling. Because of its high degree of control & extremely fast response, it can help the low pressure sand foundry to produce castings with a very good surface finish, with minimal penetration and burn-in.
