Profile: CSIRO Petroleum provides state-of-the-art research facilities and laboratories carrying highly specialised equipment for conducting research and services in support of the petroleum and mining industries. Our services include fluid history analysis laboratory to determine oil migration and timing of oil charge to petroleum reservoirs as a tool for reducing exploration risk in sedimentary basins and laser nanopyrolysis gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry facility that bridges the gap between microscopy and bulk analysis techniques. It assists in analysing individual solid bitumens, source rock macerals, coal particles and microfossils at smaller scale. Our technologies include isotope studies, organic geochemistry and petrology, fluid inclusions, modeling and hydrodynamics.
