Crodon® lining is the hardest available material appropriate for cylinder bores. With a Rockwell C scale hardness of 70 - 72 (compared to a Rockwell hardness of 62 - 67 for conventional chrome plating), Crodon® lining provides superior resistance to sliding wear, abrasion, scuffing and scoring. Crodon® lining is not affected by most corrosive elements. It resists corrosion due to water, sulfuric acid and hydrogen sulfide, the most common contaminants affecting engine operation. Crodon® enhances this natural advantage by forming an extremely dense, fine grain plate that prevents infiltration to the base metal. It protects cylinders with a superior surface that easily withstands hostile environments. Crodon® has the lowest co-efficient of friction of materials suitable for cylinders. It requires only one-third less energy than steel to slide over a cast iron surface. Eighty percent of sliding wear occurs during startup, and co-efficient of friction is the primary factor. Crodon's low co-efficient of friction saves cylinders from wear, galling and seizing throughout their life cycle. We can provide GE/EB power cylinders with either new steel liners or used liners rebuilt to meet or exceed OEM specifications. Used liners are reconditioned with Crodon® lining and SmoothChrome™ finish. New liners are also available with Crodon® lining and SmoothChrome™ finish, or they can be plateau honed & nitride hardened using the Melonite® process.
