Diffuser type pump has number of diffuser vanes that exceeds the number of impeller. These vanes are designed to streamline the transition of velocity head to static head. By reducing turbulence and other internal losses, the diffuser vanes are able to develop higher-pressure heads and high pump efficiencies. The diffuser castings are typically used in multistage pumps. The large diffuser pumps often have efficiencies approaching 90%.
