Test automation involves using computing devices to control the instrumentation needed for the stimulus and measurement functions needed to test a product. The computing devices also make the decision of pass or fail. These computing devices are controlled by custom programming in a computer language and involve sequencing the test steps to satisfy the test process. It may also involve the use of mechatronics to further reduce the human intervention needed to test the product. The series 2050 test system uses a PC-based system controller and standard windows software operating system, supporting GPIB, ethernet, process control and PXI control.
