These portable instruments work with direct probes, which have some advantages such as a small dead zone, more convenient application to curved surfaces and a simpler indication of point corrosion. These transistorized units are able to measure the thickness of materials as thin as 0.010 in. with an accuracy of ± 0.0001 in.
