Description:
The DC compact electric porosity detector is ideal for the detection of pores and faults in di-electric (electrically insulating) coatings such as paint, enamel and plastic coatings on all metals and also on concrete. The portable detector basically consists of a fully insulated plastic case and a high-voltage probe containing a brush. A special harness that comes along with the detector not only enables the user to keep both his hands free while operating the detector but also supports him. While detecting porosity, the DC compact delivers a low-energy and a high DC voltage. Applied voltage is continuously adjustable from 0-15 kV or 0-30 kV, according to the model. The voltage level depends entirely on test sample coating thickness, which should be measured beforehand to avoid highvoltage damage. The correctly applied voltage can then be read from the coating thickness/voltage table in the DC compact handbook delivered along with every detector. To test for porosity, the brush should be simply passed slowly, approximately 30 cm over the test surface. If there is any fault, a spark will be visible and an alarm is produced. For optimal pore detection, the company supplies a selection of brushes, which include flat brushes and also round brushes for both internal and external pore detection on pipes.
