Profile: Energy Systems Associates is an engineering firm committed to developing and implementing solutions to air pollution & operational problems of fossil fuel boilers. Our solutions assist utilities and energy intensive companies to meet regulatory & efficiency goals in an increasingly competitive market. We offer a variety of NOx control systems for boilers of many types ranging from large utility PCs to small industrial stokers. Depending on the application, our systems provide moderate to deep NOx reductions to help meet the compliance strategy. Many of these systems can be easily combined with additive effects on NOx reduction. We offer selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) systems that are suitable to a range of NOx compliance strategies. Our SNCR experience includes 100-600 MW coal fired units, turnkey supply, single/multiple injection zones, baseline, startup & optimization testing and CFD process modeling. We have installed SNCR systems with a wide range of detail and complexity based on our clients needs. We can design a system to meet a variety of needs, from systems using stationary injectors and existing boiler penetrations to systems with automated retractable injectors & multiple injection zones. Our overfire air systems are used to divert a portion of the total combustion air away from the primary combustion zone. It lowers the air-to-fuel ratio at the burners, lowering the oxygen in the primary flame zone, which reduces NOx conversion of fuel-nitrogen in volatiles and reduces thermal NOx formed in the primary flame zone. We have designed and installed overfire air systems of various types. These systems range in complexity of design, cost of installation and effectiveness of NOx reduction. We use CFD modeling to design overfire air flow, duct size, nozzle size, flow orientation and various other system design parameters as well as to predict performance.
