Profile: Giastar Ltd is a manufacturer of radio communications and telecommunications equipment. We provide technical feasibility studies, design reviews, research & development and test & development systems. We design IF, interface and radio frequency boards. Our IF board converts between broadband 70MHz IFs and a simple parallel I/Q interface. The mechanical and electrical interface is fully documented, allowing customers to produce their own interface boards if required. The single-board construction includes all analogue, power supply and RF subsystems (except antenna) required for a small, low-power L-band satellite communications terminal. Our synthesized VHF transmitter module is used for short-range voice and data communications. The module size is 50mm x 30mm x 8mm. Most settings are digitally controlled. A novel feature of this device is the programming method: the user creates a configuration (combination of settings) using a control program that runs on a standard PC. The configuration is downloaded to the transmitter via a serial port adapter and is stored in non-volatile memory.
