Internal Thread Rolling By Fluteless Taps
Description: Fluteless taps are for internal thread rolling. Internal threading is produced by an action similar to thread rolling by deformation of material than cutting. These taps do not have cutting edges and hence do not produce any chips. Depending on the work piece material, the elongation is between 10 and 40% and above. The advantages are not only excellent surface finish but also a good surface hardness and increase in thread strength up to 40%. All ductile materials can be thread rolled internally with a good impact value. Other advantages are reduction in cost per threaded hole, good surface hardness of threads, no chip formation hence blind holes can be easily threaded, good grain flow structure and hole size required for internal thread rolling is calculated upon the material properties. Approximate drill size = major diameter - (pitch x 0.45). Areas of application include aluminium and its alloys, all non-ferrous material (% elongation 10- 40%), brass having copper % more than 62; and steel, stainless steel, free cutting steel. These are cost effective with 100% repeatability and produced out of specifically selected HSS special alloys. Accurate heat treatment and special coating allows to achieve maximum tool life confirming to ISO 9001.
