Length and doping of the EDF are custom-designed to match the particular transmission system parameters & optimize performance & operating margins. Fiber lasers are dependable and easy to use sources for a variety of industrial, military & scientific applications. The all-fusion-spliced optical trains eliminate the traditional concerns of keeping optics clean and cavity alignment sensitive to temperature & mechanical vibrations. Both self-contained, ready-to-use benchtop units and OEM modules, designed for further system integration are available. Benchtop erbium fiber amplifiers are repackaged versions of the high-performance optical amplifiers. These wall-plug units include pre-amplifiers with high gain and near-quantum-limited noise figure, as well as power amplifier models.
