Non-metric cameras have lenses designed for optimum picture quality and lens geometry and hence distortion is null. These cameras are cheap compared to the metric cameras. These cameras will not have a fiducial reference system. The focal length is not known to a high precision and is variable and not repeatable even when the same focus setting is selected.
