RS232 serial network is used in in-house to connect lots of RS232 devices to a single computer without having to open the case or add new drivers. It consists of a tree structured network of node boxes or hubs each of which contains a single master RS232 connection and up to 10 slave RS232 connections. The master connects any slave on the next hub higher in the tree while the slaves can each connect to the master on other hubs to form the next level down. The master on the top level hub plugs into a standard serial port on the computer and any RS232 compatible device will plug into a any slave module at any level on the tree.
