Profile: Physical Sciences, Inc. provides integrated experimental and analytical research capabilities to government and industry, with the ultimate goal of technology commercialization. The technologies we used are lasers, materials, optics, and sensors. We maintain networked data acquisition computers for efficient evaluation of experimental results. We have established a general purpose optics laboratory. It is equipped with optical benches, lasers and standard optical components which allow the rapid prototyping of a conceptual system. Various facilities for design, fabrication and characterization of APE waveguides are also available, including high-temperature baths for proton exchange, a muffle furnace for annealing, and a prism coupler for the measurement of effective refractive indices. We have been involved in modeling and simulation activities. We focus on flow modeling applicable to re-entry vehicles, simulation of lasers interacting with solid, liquids and gases, and calculation of equilibrium and non-equilibrium chemical systems. We also acquired modern CAD/CAM and FEA tools used to design new products and experiments.
