T-Seals are used in applications where large clearances occur as a result of the expansion of the thin-walled hydraulic cylinder. The T-ring is installed under radial compression and provides a positive seal at zero or low pressure. The T-seals allow for lateral motion and thermal expansion differences between the RCC and the orbiter wing. T-seals also prevent extrusion in high-pressure/high-clearance systems.
