Description: Sonasil, a calcium silicate insulation (CSI), is a thermal energy conservation product, containing reinforcing fibres (non-asbestos). It is a versatile insulation offering the thermal efficiency of flexible insulation like mineral wool and the strength of conventional insulation bricks. It improves production and other related issues, all within a very small pay-back period up to a service temperature of 1000°C. Salient features include: low thermal conductivity, light weight with a density of 250 kg/m3, good mechanical strength, low shrinkage, low specific heat, non-corrosive, that is fire-resistant and non-combustible. It requires low maintenance cost, lasts long, re-usable, easily workable (cuts easily), and non-polluting as the raw materials do not pose any pollution risk and calcium silicate being inert is not a pollution hazard. Areas of application: In cement industry, it is used as preheaters/precalciners, coolers and TAD and in aluminium industry, it is used as reduction pots. Other thermal process equipment: In glass industry, it is used in furnaces, recuperators and annealing lehrs, in steel industry, it is used for various types of furnaces as refractory back-up. In power plants, it is used in boilers, steam lines and recuperators. In fertilizers, it is used in reformers, steam lines and furnaces. In petrochemicals, it is used in incinerators and hot gas lines. In ceramics industry, it is used in tunnel kilns and trolleys and in ship building, it is used in boilers, turbines, steam lines, flue gas and ducts. The CSI is unmatched in places, where a backup insulation is needed or where there is likely the possibility of insulation being subjected to accidental exposure to water or impact loads or foot traffic. It is available as slabs, bevelled lags, radiused and bevelled lags, pipes and in powder form for insulating complex shapes.
