Description: Thread machining tools are manufactured by Komet Precision Tools. Well established solutions are offered for producing threads under minimal lubrication conditions. Minimal lubrication needs high quality tools. An example from practice in batch production shows which tool details need to be noted for MLC tools. For thread forming in 14 threaded blind bores to M6 with two different thread depths in a bearing seat from cast aluminium alloy, a thread forming tool has been developed in solid carbide. A low-friction coating is applied to the forming part. The thread forming tool has an internal coolant supply with a central coolant channel and lateral coolant outlet bores. With cutting lead form E the thread forming tool achieved the full thread profile after one and a half to two thread pitches. As the actual forming work is carried out in the initial profile area, the outlet openings are positioned to the form so that the mixture of oil and air is applied directly to the cutting lead area. For a blind hole depth of 20 mm a thread depth of 15 mm is achieved. The thread forming tool is applied with a peripheral speed of 53 m/min. As a result tool life is reached to the order of 150,000 parts. The tool has a central, internal coolant bore. Two apertures are introduced on the face side to cover the drill cutting edges on the face side. An outlet opening is eroded into each of the straight flutes.
