Profile: US Wick Drain, Inc is a ground improvement company specializing in the manufacture and installation of wick drains. We use excavators to install wicks up to 120 feet deep, with the ability to install wicks to over 200 feet depth and can handle any necessary depth. We have 8 installation rigs and can handle even the largest projects. We own a line of augers and core drills for all of the drilling needs. We also own a fleet of semi trucks, low boy trailers, box trailers and flatbeds. Our wick drain jobs have included projects such as dredge ponds, large storage areas, highway embankments, tanks, bridge abutments, buildings, and golf courses. Wick drains are installed with specialized equipment called stitchers. The stitchers are mounted on backhoes/cranes and consist of a special installation mandrel. The mandrel, containing the wick drain, is hydraulically pushed/vibrated into the ground to the desired treatment of depth, typically to the bottom of the soft-soil stratum. As the mandrel is withdrawn back into the mast, the undamaged wick drain is left in place within the soil mass. The mandrels are less than 10 square inches in cross-section, thus causing minimal disturbance to the soil. Depending on soil conditions and depth, installation rates are as high as 4,000 L.F. per hour.
