Direct measurement of the adhesion of surface coatings is still a challenge. Several adhesion test methods came into use to evaluate the adhesion of their coatings and also to determine the applicability of the products in industrial practice. The parameters of adhesion testing are used to evaluate the friction work, acoustic emission activity and critical load of the scratch test, the critical strain and the defect density of the four-point bending test, the proportional damage area of the cavitation test, the critical number of loading cycles of the impact test. The adhesion testing procedures used for diamond-coated carbide inserts are the indentation method and physical machining.
