Description: Lubrication is required when it comes to machine tool chucks to maintain a high and a constant clamping force on work-pieces or tools. This also ensures that work pieces are held safely throughout machining. Lubricants used must resist high rotational speeds of the chucks, as much as the coolant wash; providing a stable and continuous lubrication even in face of these adverse conditions. It must also provide adequate lubrication preventing temperature rises as number of clamping operations increase. Inadequate lubrication means buildup of friction and thus a corresponding loss of the gripping force. This also results in ovality of the components and loss of machining dimensions. SYN-setral-6B when applied to the sliding surfaces and clamping thread of the chuck helps in achieving smooth movement of the sliding components. It resists coolant wash. It is adhesive in nature and designed to provide anti-fretting properties. A constant high clamping force can be achieved when a tightening torque is applied. Neither high centrifugal forces nor straight cutting fluids and emulsions can displace the lubricant over a long period. Regarding salient features of SYN-setral-6B it is resistant to coolant wash; excellent anti-fretting lubricant; provides low and a constant coefficient of friction; ensuring thus a high and constant clamping force; long re-lubrication intervals; high adhesion; consequently only low grease losses at high chuck speeds; very low drop in clamping force, even with complex chuck designs; and provides excellent corrosion protection.
