The basic objective of a geotechnical investigation is the characterization of the geologic environment. This investigation consists of several determinations that include - Lateral distribution and thickness of the soil and rock strata within the zone of influence of the proposed construction or development; Groundwater conditions, considering the seasonal changes and the effects of extraction due to construction or development; Physical and engineering properties of the soil and rock formations, and groundwater quality; Hazardous conditions, including unstable slopes, active or potentially active faults, regional seismicity, floodplains, ground subsidence, collapse, and heave potential. Investigations are performed in a number of stages, each with a different objective, and each requiring interpretation, analysis, and evaluation.

Seismic drilling is generally conducted in remote areas. Shallow holes are drilled for the placement of explosives required for reflection and refraction surveys. Geothermal drilling allows access to capturing the earth's natural heat, which is relatively stable.

Geothermal hardfacing utilizes tungsten carbide bricks. These are brazed to the stabilizer blade and surrounded by tungsten impregnated composite rod.

Glycol Dehydration is a process in which a liquid glycol directly contacts a natural gas stream and absorbs water in a contact tower or absorption column. The common process for dehydrating natural gas is to contact the gas with a hygroscopic liquid such as one of the glycols. This is an absorption process where the water vapors in the gas stream become dissolved in a relatively pure glycol liquid solvent stream. This is relatively inexpensive as the water can be easily boiled out of the glycol by the addition of heat. This step is called regeneration or reconcentration and enables glycol to be recovered for reuse in absorbing water with minimal loss of glycol. The process works on the basis of glycol's high affinity for water.

Gold mining consists of the processes and techniques employed in the removal of gold from the ground. There are several techniques by which gold may be extracted from earth and rock: planning, sluicing, dredging, hydraulic mining, and hard rock mining. Gold panning is a mostly manual technique of sorting gold. Hydraulic mining is a type of placer mining used in areas where large amounts of loose gravel and sand or soil are poorly packed and may be washed away with a heavy stream of water.

Grouting inflatable packers are a highly effective tool in preventing the infiltration of groundwater into structurally sound pipes or shafts. These are designed to deliver unmatched performance on the toughest pressure grouting jobs. These are frequently used for grout injection in geotechnical applications for structural reinforcement and/or waterproofing of foundations, tunnels and mines.
