Front-end loaders are wheeled or tracked machines with special forks, lifts, or grapples for loading log-hauling trucks, loading pallets, and transferring wood to railcars. It requires large landing areas and high soil-bearing capacity. Loaders are used for dumping soil back into the hole after the necessary below grade work is done. Front-end loaders typically are tractor powered and operate on tires. The turning radius of the loader and any obstructions to the load determines the maneuvering room required by the front-end loader.
