Corridor is an enclosed exit access component that defines and provides a path of egress travel to an exit. Corridor dampers are intended for use as a fire/smoke damper where air ducts penetrate or terminate at the horizontal openings in the ceilings of interior corridors. Dampers may be installed with the actuator above or below the damper. Corridor dampers are combination fire and smoke dampers that have been evaluated for mounting only in specific corridor ceiling constructions.

Corrosion fatigue is fatigue in a corrosive environment. It is a combined effect of a corrosive environment and cyclic tensions can cause crack growth in a material. It is the mechanical degradation of a material under the joint action of corrosion and cyclic loading. In corrosion fatigue, there is initiation and extension of cracks by the combined action of an alternating stress and a corrosive environment. In fact, the fatigue process causes rupture of the protective passive film, upon which corrosion is accelerated.

The effectiveness of corrosion inhibitors are largely determined by the electrochemical potential of the metal that is to be protected. Corrosion inhibitors are used to prevent or delay corrosion initiation. It can either influence the anodic or the cathodic reactions, or both. It is normally divided into five groups, such as anodic, cathodic, organic, vapour phase and oxidizing corrosion inhibitors. Anodic corrosion inhibitors, which inhibit corrosion, associated with the stabilization of the passivity film, tend to break down when chloride ions are present at the steel surface.
