A backplane is a circuit board, which connects several connectors in parallel to each other, so that each pin of each connector is linked to the same relative pin of all the other connectors, forming a computer bus. Backplanes are normally used in preference to cables because of their greater reliability. It generally consists of a light source, lens and a photo conductor translating optical impulses into electrical ones. It contains decoder circuitry analyzing the barcode's image data provided by the photo conductor and sending the barcode's content to the scanner's output port.
