Hose clamp or hose clip is a device used to attach and seal a hose onto a fitting such as a barb or nib. A hose clamp is not the same as a pipe clamp which is a clamp made partly out of a pipe, not a clamp for clamping pipe. Various types like screw/band clamps, CLIC clamps, VISA clamps, spring clamps and wire clamps are available. The average sail boat diesel uses dozens of hose clamps. There are many design variations all based on a worm screw tightening a gear-cut band. The three main types of hose clamps are: press, screw and hydraulic. Stainless hose clamps are intended for marine applications.
