The progressive cavity pump is a rotary positive displacement pump utilizing a single helical rotor within a cylindrical stator. The stator has a double helical internal thread and is constructed of an elastometric material chemically bonded to metal tubing. Rotating inside the stator is the rotor, consisting of a single external helical thread. The rotor is constructed of hard chrome stainless steel or tool steel. It is self-priming at suction lifts up to 28 ft, but it must not operate dry because it will burn out the rubber stator.
