Upon pressing the suction cup to a surface, the air pressure inside is drastically reduced. The relatively higher atmospheric pressure forces the cups to stick to the surface. They can be used as safety device by climbers of sky-scrapers.

T-Seals are used in applications where large clearances occur as a result of the expansion of the thin-walled hydraulic cylinder. The T-ring is installed under radial compression and provides a positive seal at zero or low pressure. T-seals are effective at avoiding problems commonly encountered with o-ring seals, such as the tendency of o-ring seals to twist when used for reciprocating service. T-seals are three-piece sealing systems that involve an elastomeric. These T-seals are two tubes sealed together at right angles. The T-seals allow for lateral motion and thermal expansion differences between the RCC and the orbiter wing. T-seals also prevent extrusion in high-pressure/high-clearance systems. T-Seals are available for use in industrial hydraulic systems and in thin flange styles.
