Air compressor is the power source, which is operated with disregard for its features, adjustments and required maintenance. There are many different types of standard air compressors: those with large or small capacities, portable or stationary compressors, and electric or gasoline powered compressors. These compressors have a wide range of capacities for air delivery. There are two basic types of compressors: those with air tanks and those that do not have air tanks. Those without air tanks are less expensive than the compressors with air tanks, and are designed primarily for blowing air and inflating tubes and tires. Compressors with air tanks are more powerful and, depending upon the model, will operate any air tool or accessory.

Air cooled compressor is a compressor cooled by atmospheric air circulated around the cylinders or casing. An air-cooled compressor relies on ambient air blowing over the cylinder head to cool the compressor. To aid in cooling, the cylinder and intercooler have cooling fins mounted on them. Air-cooled compressor is a kind of piston compressor.

Airlift pump is a simple pump, which is powered by compressed air. Typically, the compressed air is pumped down a pipe into a well and bubbles into another larger diameter pipe. The air bubbles return to the surface in the larger pipe. Airlift pumps are often used in deep dirty wells where sand would quickly abrade mechanical parts. However airlift wells must be much deeper than the water table to allow for submergence. Air is generally pumped at least as deep under the water as the water is to be lifted. The airlift pump is a type of deep well pump, used to remove water from mines. It can also be used to pump slurry of sand and water or other gritty solutions. In the pump, the compressed air is piped down a shaft and the air then returns up a discharge pipe carrying water with it. The pump works by aerating the water in the discharge pipe.

Air operated double diaphragm pumps are used for feeding heavy sludges. It has two flexible, vertically mounted diaphragms sealed around the perimeter and connected to a common shaft. It pumps fluid through a single-ported manifold by reciprocating diaphragm movement. Compressed air is valve alternately behind each diaphragm.

An air trap is air that is caught inside the mold cavity. It is a bubbles or voids on the surface of the molded product. Converging polymer melt fronts traps it or because it failed to escape from the mold vents, or mold inserts, which also act as vents. Air-trap locations are usually in areas that fill last. Entrapped air will result in voids and bubbles inside the molded part, a short shot, or surface defects such as blemishes or burn marks. To eliminate air traps, modify the filling pattern by reducing the injection speed, enlarging venting, or placing proper venting in the cavity.
