Dilute phase conveying is simply lifting and blowing powders or particles down a line, usually at higher gas velocities. It involves calibrating the line pressure based on the physical characteristics of the process material, trying to achieve full fluidization of material in the line, but moving it at a lower velocity.

Dilute phase conveying system is generally used when conveying non-abrasive materials or where high material velocities and product degradation is not a factor. It unloads a railcar to storage silos with subsequent delivery of products to in-plant process bins. A vacuum blower is used to unload the railcar to a vacuum receiver. From the vacuum receiver a second blower conveys the material to the selected silos by pressure. This system can be set up with manual or automatic selection for silo delivery. From the silos, a second pressure blower conveys the materials to in-plant hoppers on a keep full or scaling basis with air and material being vented or conveyed back to the respective silos. This system is available in both vacuum and pressure conveying systems.

Dilution extractive continuous emissions monitoring systems are designed for continuous emissions monitoring of gases such as NOx, SO2, CO, H2O, and O2. It is ideally suited to installations where there are long distances between analyzer and measuring point. It is also easily expanded for other gases, is simple to install and has a low maintenance requirement.

Dilution Probes are not usually applicable to particulate monitoring, although some systems have been designed to permit the sampling of semivolatile pollutants, such as chlorinated dibenzodioxins and polyaromatic hydrocarbons.
