Spiral welded pipe is fully fusion butt welded along the spiral seam. Ends can be furnished plain, spigot and socket for welding (slip joint) or spigot and socket rubber ring. Diameters 600 mm and above can be welded from the inside as well as the outside and the internal linining repaired to retain the integrity of the lining. Cutting a full length to fit a mechanical coupling requires grinding the proud spiral seam flush with the outside of the pipe. Otherwise, spiral welded pipe can be treated as identical to rolled pipe.
