The storage containers are designed to prevent the deterioration of the plutonium, the formation of plutonium hydrides and oxides. Therefore, the existence of these compounds will alert us that the containers are failing in some way. These compounds are also indicators that pyrophoric plutonium compounds may be forming. Because it is extremely important to avoid fires in the storage vault and the spread of fine plutonium powders formed during a fire, the detection of the hydrides and oxides is crucial. Fortunately, the hydrides and oxides are very easy to detect radio graphically because they are powders with about 60% the density of plutonium.

Switch Guard Rails is used to adjacent the switch point of a railway switch. It is comprised of a plurality of support chairs and an adjustable guard rail. It includes a surface for engaging and laterally urging the wheels of rolling stock in a direction toward the centerline of the track work and disclosed apparatus used for laterally adjusting and fastening the wheel engaging surface. It has guard or deflector rail positioned to prevent flanges of railroad wheels from striking the switch point. The guard rail is carried on support members for rigid retention in a fixed, predetermined position relative to the track. It provides a switch which stops a trolley from falling. These switches are constructed to exacting standards, template punched to ensure uniform component sizing and dimensions. It includes automatic or gear operated switches, mill, painted, galvanized and stainless steel finish.

Switch Rods are the flexible rods, typically used for corporal punishment of the birching type. It can be used as a gauge plate or a switch plate. The electrically insulated rail receives the bushings. These are available in 3/4 wt to 10/11 wt and will match perfectly to all of the 10'6″ switch rods.
