Compression Testers are of two types, they are tapered rubber-cone type that is inserted into & held against the open sparkplug hole and the screw-in type. Compression testers are threaded into the spark plug openings. Compression testers provide rapid testing & wheel action precise control.

A compression test determines behavior of materials under crushing loads. The specimen is compressed and deformation at various loads is recorded. Compressive stress and strain are calculated and plotted as a stress-strain diagram which is used to determine elastic limit, proportional limit, yield point, yield strength and, for some materials, compressive strength.   It is used to measure the compressibility of a material as well as the recovery of a material that has been compressed to a load and held over a time period.  The maximum stress a material can sustain over a period of time under load (constant or progressive) is determined. This testing is typically used to test plastics, foam, rock, concrete and asphalt. It is rarely used to test metals. It is also used in product testing to evaluate the behavior of finished products. For example, a hypodermic needle may be pushed into a material to see how easily it penetrates and to assess its sharpness.

Compression testing machines are used to determine the compressive strength of concrete cylinders, cubes, and masonry blocks. It is in a high stiffness four-column construction with single acting ram. It features a strain gauge load cell force measuring systems. It is used for measuring load transfer by means of a strain-gauged column.

The crack detection uses non-contact probes, a high-speed signal conditioner, PC, and software algorithms to monitor and graphically display rotor health real-time.  The system measures the unbalance vector of the rotating component and compares the amplitude and phase of this unbalance to a baseline previously established.  Any distortion in the strain field, or any relative movement of the components of the assembly will cause a change in unbalance and will appear as a very small but detectable vector with a distinct amplitude change.
