Chemical sensors are more complex extensions of physical sensors. These sensors are defined as measurement devices, which utilize chemical reactions to detect and quantify a specific analyte or event. It utilizes specific polymeric membranes, either per se or containing doping agents, or are coated with non-biological materials. These polymeric layers or specific chemicals have attached to the layers or directly to the transducer, interact with and measure the analyte of interest. The basic components of chemical sensors include active surface, the transducer, and the electronics/software. The active surface of chemical sensors contains the detection component that includes polymeric layer.

Chilled mirror digital dew point tester is inserted by drilling holes for accessing moisture content of concrete. This tester is the most commonly accepted instrument for measuring dew points of natural gas streams at field sites. It is sometimes used to resolve custody transfer disputes over natural gas quality. The dew point is visually identified and the chilled mirror is considered as a subjective instrument. An ideal dew point instrument would rely on objectively measured properties of the gas flow such as density, optical absorption, or temperature changes with pressure drop to identify the dew point.

Chlorine leak detectors consist of a control unit and a sensor. Sensors are available in two different types such as single and double sensor leak detectors. A chlorine leak detector sounds an alarm when elevated chlorine concentrations are found. It sounds continuously for the duration of the abnormal concentrations. The employees, contractors and visitors exit from the leak area while observing the wind direction and report to the designated area. Two chlorine leak detector are installed in the chlorination room to alert the plant staff quickly in the event of a chlorine leak. One chlorine leak detector is located next to the chlorinators and the other chlorine leak detector is located next to the active containers. An audible alarm automatically sounds inside and outside of the building.

Circular Chart Recorders records data in a circular format. The paper is spun beneath one or more pens. The pens are deflected in proportion to the varying signal resulting in a circular chart. Circular chart recorders are ideal for batch processes where a set process time is known. The charts are normally designed to rotate in standard time periods such as 1 hour, 24 hours & 7 days although many recorders are flexible enough to accommodate non-standard time periods. This range of circular chart recorders combines the simplicity and clarity of pen-drawn traces together with the sophistication of microprocessor-controlled functions.

CO analyzers detect CO levels in breathing gases before they become dangerous. It is ideal for ambient air monitoring and flue testing in small boilers. Its function is based on the principle that some gases are able to absorb infrared radiation to a greater degree. The three main analyzer components are infrared radiation source, a pair of gas-filled chambers and a detection system. The infrared radiation source contains a filter system that allows emission of radiation selected specially for carbon monoxide gas.

CO2 analyzer measures absorption by carbon dioxide of appropriate wavelengths of infrared light. Infrared light is passed through a cell containing the gas to be measured and the amount of light transmitted is compared with a reference value. It uses a high-grade light source with a quality detector to provide accurate measurement of carbon dioxide. It can detect gross amount of carbon dioxide in a breathing medium.

Coagulant Charge Analyzer measures the colloidal charge of a solution. A coagulant charge analyzer is needed to determine the efficiency of the coagulation by measuring the residual colloid charge. It uses a fast, simple titration procedure to correlate jar with a quantified, repeatable charge value resulting in optimized plant performance. Once this correlation is established, jar tests usually become less frequent, or unnecessary. The measurement cell consists of a reciprocating piston in a probe assembly. The movement of liquid between two stainless steel electrodes creates a voltage signal indicating net charge of the sample. This signal is displayed in a range of -10.00 to + 10.00. When the desired plant results are obtained, this number is defined as the optimum charge value.
