Nanofiltration is a form of filtration that uses membranes to preferentially separate different fluids or ions. Nanofiltration is not as fine a filtration process as reverse osmosis, but it also does not require the same energy to perform the separation. Nanofiltration also uses a membrane that is partially permeable to perform the separation, but the membrane's pores are typically much larger than the membrane pores that are used in reverse osmosis. Nanofiltration is most commonly used to separate a solution that has a mixture of some desirable components and some that are not desirable. An example of this is the concentration of corn syrup. The nanofiltration membrane will allow the water to pass through the membrane while holding the sugar back, concentrating the solution. As the concentration of the fluid being rejected increases, the driving force required to continue concentrating the fluid increases. Nanofiltration is capable of concentrating sugars, divalent salts, bacteria, proteins, particles, dyes, and other constituents that have a molecular weight greater than 1000 daltons. Nanofiltration, like reverse osmosis, is affected by the charge of the particles being rejected. Thus, particles with larger charges are more likely to be rejected than others. Nanofiltration is not effective on small molecular weight organics, such as methanol.

Sapsorb Water System
Non-electric chemical injectors are designed as a two-part system. It comprises a water motor and chemical pump. The non-electric water motor functions on demand with water flow. A fixed diaphragm replaces a moving piston used by the driving mechanism of the water motor. It is inserted into the bottom of the water motor is a positive displacement chemical pump. The chemical pump draws directly from a stock solution container and injects into the water line. No chemicals enter the water motor.

Oxidation ponds are also known as stabilization ponds or lagoons. They are used for simple secondary treatment of sewage effluents. Within an oxidation pond, heterotrophic bacteria degrade organic matter in the sewage, which results in production of cellular material and minerals. The production of these supports the growth of algae in the oxidation pond. Growth of algal populations allows further decomposition of the organic matter by producing oxygen. The production of this oxygen replenishes the oxygen used by the heterotrophic bacteria. Typically oxidation ponds need to be less than 10 feet deep in order to support the algal growth. In addition, the use of oxidation ponds is largely restricted to warmer climate regions because they are strongly influenced by seasonal temperature changes. Oxidation ponds also tend to fill, due to the settling of the bacterial and algal cells formed during the decomposition of the sewage.

An ozonation system consists of air preparation or oxygen feed, electric power supply, ozone generation, ozone contacting and ozone contactor exhaust gas destruction. To prevent fouling of the ozone production tubes and to reduce corrosion, ambient air is first dried. Some systems use desiccant dryers in conjunction with compression and refrigerant dryers. To control the rate of ozone production, the voltage or frequency of the electrical supply is varied. An ozonation system is used in rural application. Ozone is one of the strongest oxidizing agents. It is used to reduce color, eliminate organic waste, reduce odor and reduce total organic carbon in water.

Ozonators are suitable for home use for whole-house removal of iron, manganese, and other staining minerals. These are also used to treat drinking water. It provides ozone that oxidizes five categories of water pollutants such as pathogens, toxic minerals and metals, toxic organic compounds, toxic inorganic compounds, and radioactive substances and renders them harmless. It requires electricity but only a minimal amount. Ozonators themselves have no components requiring periodic replacement and, as with distillation, there is no reduction in their performance over time.

Ozone, the first allotrope of a chemical element to be described by science, . The odour from a lightning strike is from ions produced during the rapid chemical changes, not the ozone itself. It is present in low concentrations throughout the Earth's atmosphere. It has many industrial and consumer applications as well as being used in ozone therapy. Ozone will oxidize metals except gold, platinum, and iridium to oxides of the metals in their highest oxidation state. Ozone can be used to remove manganese from the water, forming a precipitate which can be filtered. The highest levels of ozone in the atmosphere are in the stratosphere, in a region also known as the ozone layer between about 10 km and 50 km above the surface. Here it filters out the shorter wavelengths less than 320 nm of ultraviolet light 270 to 400 nm from the Sun that would be harmful to most forms of life in large doses. These same wavelengths are also among those responsible for the production of vitamin D, which is essential for human health. Ozone can be used for bleaching substances and for killing bacteria. Disinfect laundry in hospitals, food factories, care homes etc, Disinfect water before it is bottled, deodorize air and objects, such as after a fire, kill bacteria on food or on contact surfaces, scrub yeast and mold spores from the air in food processing plants, wash fresh fruits and vegetables to kill yeast, mold and bacteria, chemically attack contaminants in water such us iron, arsenic, hydrogen sulfide, nitrites, and complex organics lumped together as color, provide an aid to flocculation (agglomeration of molecules, which aids in filtration, where the iron and arsenic are removed).

Ozone is an unstable gas comprising of three oxygen atoms, the gas will readily degrade back to oxygen, and during this transition a free oxygen atom, or free radical is form. The free oxygen radical is highly reactive and short lived; under normal conditions it will only survive for milliseconds. Ozone is a colorless gas that has an odor similar to smell of the air after a major thunderstorm. Ozone has greater disinfection effectiveness against bacteria and viruses compared to chlorination. In addition, the oxidizing properties can also reduce the concentration of iron, manganese, sulfur and reduce or eliminate taste and odor problems. Ozone oxides the iron, manganese, and sulfur in the water to form insoluble metal oxides or elemental sulfur. These insoluble particles are then removed by post-filtration. Organic particles and chemicals will be eliminated through either coagulation or chemical oxidation. Ozone is unstable, and it will degrade over a time frame ranging from a few seconds to 30 minutes. The rate of degradation is a function of water chemistry, pH and water temperature. The formation of oxygen into ozone occurs with the use of energy. This process is carried out by an electric discharge field as in the CD-type ozone generators like corona discharge simulation of the lightning, or by ultraviolet radiation as in UV-type ozone generators like simulation of the ultraviolet rays from the sun. In addition to these commercial methods, ozone may also be made through electrolytic and chemical reactions. The system consists of three major components: ozone generator, in-line mixer, and filter module. The ozone generator plugs into a standard receptacle (115v-60Hz).
